Making Missions Matter
11:00 AM at Goodman Community Center (Length: 1hr)
A mission statement can make quite an impression, so it is particularly important it is one you intend. A clear mission statement that makes sense can help people understand your purpose and inspire their involvement. It can also help drive decision-making. This session will define terms around an organization’s ideology (mission, vision, values), share perspective on the value of revisiting it sooner rather than later, offer ways to assess your mission statement and discuss the value of taking it a level further by crafting an intended impact for a defined period of time.
Melanie Schmidt, principal of Timpano Consulting, brings over 16 years experience working with Boards of Directors and organizational leaders to connect the dots between strategy, systems and people. In recent years, her consultative coaching has been instrumental in helping to refocus organizations, recharge stakeholders, structure organizational change, build stronger brands and overhaul governance models to enhance effectiveness. Melanie is an affiliate member of the UW Center for Nonprofits and currently serves as Board President for the Business & Education Partnership.
