Volunteer & Community Engagement Meetings

Madison Nonprofit Day is looking for VOLUNTEERS!!  This year’s event is scheduled for Thursday, 5 August 2010 and offers plenty of opportunities for your skills and expertise. We will be hosting three Volunteer & Community Engagement meetings, for volunteers and organizers. These will be introductory 1hr sessions to quickly get you up to speed on the goals for the 2010 Nonprofit Day, introduce you to other volunteers, and to create volunteer committees and workgroups as needed.

The meeting dates are:

  • Thursday, 11 March 2010 at 3pm
  • Saturday, 13 March 2010 at 11am
  • Monday, 15 March 2010 at 10am

Quick, one hour sessions: they will introduce you to the goals for the 2010 Nonprofit Day; identify roles you can play in the planning and organizing of the day; allow you to network with other volunteers; have a quick snack and refreshments; as well as pick-up materials and resources for your new volunteer experience.  You only need to attend one session, or you can also fill out the online volunteer application at http://madison.nonprofit-day.org/volunteer/

This is the second year putting on Madison Nonprofit Day— a day to celebrate, learn, and connect with nonprofits in the Greater Madison Area. One of the lessons we learned from our successful first effort is: Volunteers Are Our Lifeblood.

Madison Nonprofit Day depends on the hard work of individuals, like yourself, for our success. Organizing and Day-of-Event volunteers help make the day a wonderful experience for all those involved. We are hoping to recruit between 25 to 50 volunteers to make the 2010 Madison Nonprofit Day, the most successful day of events and activities to date.

What do Volunteers Do?

Volunteers help plan and organize the day, as well as ensure that the day runs smoothly. Volunteers develop and promote events and activities for nonprofits and community members to engage and learn together and from each other. Volunteers help shine a light on why nonprofits are so important to the economic stability and vitality of a vibrant, growing, sustainable Madison. Madison Nonprofit Day is planned and organized by volunteers, so we need your help to:

• take pre-event and/or day-of photos
• shoot ‘b-reel’ or video interviews
• interview staff, volunteer, or clients of local nonprofits
• write or blog about the day, it’s purpose, and happenings
• edit interviews, articles, press releases, and other materials
• organize events and activities
• facilitate meetings
• present workshops
• participate in panel discussions
• act as media and social media mavens
• let your inner logistics geek schedule to content
• answer questions
• act as guides and docents
• setup rooms, equipment, and
• run errands, accept food deliveries, etc.
• and more…

Commitment

You can commitment for a lot or a little of time: 1-3hrs the day of the event or 2-10hrs per week pre-event organizing. Ideally, we’d like to see commitments of at least 5 hours, but are very flexible.
